Looks like we'll be getting a kitty in August, not September. I saw a picture of the kitty...he's so cute and looks really grouchy. We saw that the breeder had one kitty left from a litter that would be ready a few weeks earlier than we planned to get one, but we just finished painting the living room this weekend, so there goes our excuse to put it off. We asked the breeder to apply our deposit to that kitten, since she didn't even have one from the other litter picked out for us yet. I was worried but she actually seemed pleased. I know she uses the deposits to pay for the spay/neuter surgery and it must be that litter's time. So our future kitty will be a blue bi-color Ragdoll, and a boy. I'm really happy with this kitten, since I've seen pictures of his father(he won a lot of show awards) and he's adorable, and from the picture of our kitty at four weeks I think he looks just like his father. Also, unlike with the dam of the litter we were planning on getting a kitten from, I'm familiar with the mother and the results of her genetic testing(I found it in a Ragdoll database).

Now we just have to get ready...

Already told your sis but, make sure to take plenty of pics when he comes home. He sounds really adorable. ^_^

Websites on child-proofing may be helpful for where to find things.
I know home improvement and hardware stores carry split cord covers that will protect exposed electrical cords under a heavier casing that's a little large for a cat to be comfortable gnawing on. We've had more trouble about that with some older cats who get bored, rather than kittens, but better safe than sorry.

I've been looking into cord covers for a while--they sell bitter-apple scented ones at PetSmart, but they cost $9.99 for 10 feet of cord cover, and I would need a lot of them...I wonder if there's something that works just as well but is cheaper. I haven't heard many comments on different kinds of cord covers and how well they work... I know I also need to get outlet covers, and probably child safety locks for some of our cabinets. I already ordered a bunch of stuff...like the litter box, food dishes, etc. but I'm having a hard time finding a cat carrier for a 20 lb+ cat. The breeder recommended that we get our cat supplies accounting for Lucas's adult size, and a lot of the things I've found are too small for a fully grown Ragdoll. I had a very hard time finding the recommended size of scratching post!

I know Ragdolls can vary in size(or should I say, vary in hugeness) but from the picture, Lucas looked like the biggest kitten in the litter. ^^;
