After painting scary Mayu(well, *I* think she's cute, which is a lot coming from me, since I usually don't like my own dolls) I decided to try my hand at painting my first 06 head. Doubt she'll be a crowd-pleaser, since I've fallen back into one of my old habits of giving dolls weird eye colors, but here she is:

Her name's Mai. I went through about 4 names before finally settling on one. ^^; She has that Restoredoll Burnt Orange hair.

Cute!!! And unique eye color is good, since they stand out more.

How many skeins did it use? Mine is still only half done and I'm getting tired already...T_T

I used a little more than 2 1/2 skeins. I usually buy two orders of hair for each doll, but as of recently, I wind up with an entire order left over. ^^; But only with the Volks A-type heads!

I love the way side-glancing eyes look on that head. I wanna try it! Mai is really cute; she reminds me of a Jenny doll but I'm not sure which one.

I love the hair and eye combination. :D

The particular hair style you used on her reminds me of my Hajimemashite Abel doll... she has a similar style, but with kind of mousy brown hair instead of that gorgeous burnt orange color.

I think I've seen that Abel--is she the one in the white coat?

I'm an Abel fan. I got Lauren this one from Totoco when I was in Japan in 1999--she has black hair and orange eyes. I kind of wish I had gotten the brown-haired version as well, but 7,000 yen??!!

Yes, that's the one! She's wearing a white coat, with a leopard-spot patterned one-piece dress underneath.

I do love Takara dolls, but I'm always shocked at the prices of Totoco and Castle exclusives. I think part of the problem is that I'm now used to poseable bodies on my 1/6 dolls... so when I see a standard Takara doll on the Jenny 17 body with an asking price of 4500 yen and up, I balk at spending that much.

Then again, custom heads on Y!J can fetch that much too...

Ever since Takara moved most of their production lines to China, I kind of fell out of Jenny collecting--I don't like the made-in-China dolls and other than the exclusive dolls, I can't confirm which ones are made in Japan anymore.

Made in China Abel is still cute in her own way, but some of the dolls like Timotei and Marine just look weird to me. =_=

I still have a dream of rerooting an Abel and giving her green hair--I saw a custom Abel on Yahoo! Japan with blue green mesh hair...

(increasingly OT from your original post)

I keep an eye on the Takara website (and bemoan the lack of new Jenny Friends that I like). There's also a Japanese doll site that tends to have some advance word on Jenny releases... I was horrified to hear that the 2005 Calendar Girl line was completely canned, and that they're still working on alternative stuff. Since this year or the next is Jenny's 20th anniversary, Takara is hoping to do *something* to recognize that... but who knows what that'll be?

Did you see that they've also set up an English Jenny site? Normally I try not to be too snobby about anglicized names or localization, but seeing them changing Marine's name to "Maureen" broke my heart a little. :(

The details in her eyes are awesome, though. I think these are the most detailed I've seen from you yet. :)

I almost had a major accident when I was painting her eyes--I forgot that different colors of Liquitex paint have slightly different consistencies, and I was outlining her irises in Burgundy, and the paint ran all over her eye! I managed to mop it up, though!
