Roses again.

After the tragic demise of Charles de Mills, Lauren and I decided to round out our Gallica collection by purchasing bands of the Paul Barden hybrid Gallicas Umbra and Allegra. Maybe ordering from RVR late season is the way to go, as the bands were a pretty nice size.
So that brings our Paul Barden rose total to...six? Rook, Marianne, Siren's Keep, Umbra, Allegra, Hettie. Of this list, we've had only Rook and Marianne since the beginning of the season. We got Rook past blooming season but so far it has been a good, healthy rose and shows no signs of being a horrible PM factory like Charles de Mills. Hopefully, it will stay that way. Marianne was bug bait and poky with the growing but now looks really good. I've heard it has problems with BS but no spots so far. Siren's Keep is not too tall but has developed healthy roots(I repotted it into a gallon pot and just put it in the ground yesterday) and popped a very beautiful flower a couple of weeks ago. Hettie bloomed once(confirming its identity, which is good as it came without a tag) and leafed out quite a bit laterally, but unfortunately seems to have inherited daddy Abraham Darby's tendency to get BS. I removed the affected leaves and sprayed it with Actinovate...hopefully it won't turn out to be another Moondance, LOL! Umbra is the only Paul Barden rose we have that has no David Austin rose blood...it looks kind of ferocious right now and actually was a little pot-bound! Allegra has similar parentage to Marianne, but the plant looks very, very different...it's a bit smaller than Umbra but it had good roots.
Off the subject of Paul Barden roses, is it just me or does RVR have the wrong dimensions for Capitaine John Ingram? Mine has shot up like a giant spikey ladder, and it looks very much like the pictures on Helpmefind...I can't believe it's supposed to be 3 x 3!
