I wish...

...that I could go outside and not be attacked by angry yellow jackets. I've been stung twice in the past two months... My last sting was less than 48 hours ago. It's not like I was trying to antagonize them...I just bumped into them.

The sting on my right calf is feeling better today. It's still kind of swollen but I doubt it's infected. After all, wouldn't it be getting worse and not better? The swollen area is about five inches across. I can't tell but it's possible I got stung twice by the same yellow jacket. There's another spot that looks kind of like a sting about an inch and a half below the first one, but it didn't bleed like the other one. I was just looking at my pepper plant, minding my own business... The one that got me last month stung me on the left forearm just as I was coming in from outside.

Am I ever gonna be able to go outside again? I've been stung six times in almost 20 years. First was some kind of black wasp, and all the others were yellow jackets. I'm afraid I'm going to build up an allergy. I guess I'll have to wear a snowsuit or something...

Call a pest control company to come out and deal with it, if you don't want o go buy a 20-foot zapper can of spray. If you want ot spray it yourself, you watch them during the day to sort out where they're coming from, and zap at the top and sides of a paper wasp nest as well. You spray at night when it's cool, when they are less active.
If you don't want to kill them, you'll need to figure out where they are and how to prevent other people from blundering into them.
These are acting more aggressive than normal, they don't usually bother the people who live there all the time. You seriously do not want to develop an allergic reaction. Wasp family insects usually don't bother somebody who lives there all the time, so this means something else is going on, such as construction in the area or swarming to a new nest.

I guess that it's the latter and not the former. I finally got up the nerve to go outside and look at the deck plants and there were about 30 yellow jackets swarming around my legs. I think they're building a new nest under one of the deck chairs(though I thought yellow jackets nested in the ground?) They were not there three weeks ago. I freaked out because I didn't see them in the bright sun, and all of a sudden I was surrounded by a swarm of yellow jackets.... 0_0;;;; Luckily, I was wearing pants this time(I was wearing a dress when I got stung the last time) and managed to walk away quietly without a sting. I'm going to have to water the deck plants at night now(my sister has being doing it because she doesn't have the sting history I do, but I don't want her getting stung, either) My heart's still pounding from being surrounded by that swarm of yellow jackets! We need to take care of them, and quickly... I'm sorry to say that I have no qualms about killing them! We have paper wasps around our yard, too, but they're not nearly as vicious.
