I finished Norma's Character Quest in Tales of Legendia tonight--it wasn't as good as Will's, but I had a feeling it wouldn't be. There were some funny moments, at least.

Sometimes I wonder what kind of game I'm playing. I should have known to what level it could sink to during that scene during the...Fire Monument? Was it that one? Where Norma enlists Grune to help her lift everybody's spirits, considering the fact that Shirley had gone all funny on them and was going to destroy the Land. They walked in front of everybody while they were resting and Norma asked Grune what color her underwear was that day, and she said, "I think I forgot to put it on." Well, this was more of the same. ^^;;;; Norma drags the whole party back to the Ice Monument, being the stupid girl she is, on a wild goose chase for the Everlight and everybody stupidly goes along with her because otherwise she'll never shut up. She's trying the disarm the traps in one of the rooms, so basically she just kicked a wall, and that wound up triggering a security system that would make an icicle shoot up from the floor and spike Moses in the ass every time anybody took a step. After about three times he started whining about how he wanted to go home, about how his ass couldn't take any more of that, and then the security system reset itself and he's like, "My ass wins!"

They must have been pulling some all-nighters at Namco for that one.

Anyway. I finished the Character Quest. It felt like it dragged on a bit, mainly because Norma kept droning on and on, and the whole thing was basically about her acting like a dumbass and the game trying to convince us that she's not really a dumbass, and apparently her master was also a dumbass and his voice actor was really unconvincing. Somehow "I need to believe in myself!" isn't as touching as "My daughter hates me and I'm a fugitive and my lover died, leaving me with criminal charges and a daughter who hates me!" It's just so overdone.

Maybe it just wasn't bringing home the angst for me. Then again, this is Norma we're talking about...

Also, is it just me, or is Jay a really cheap character? In the few English Legendia FAQs out there, nobody really seems interested in ranking the characters in battle, but I swapped Jay in for Chloe and tried controlling him manually and he can dish out a lot of damage! Also, unlike with Chloe, I don't find myself flailing around helplessly whenever I have to fight flying enemies or enemies I'm not supposed to get too close to. I dunno...I must have been playing this game way too long, but ever since I saw that scene from the ending credits with Jay in bed with all the Mofumofus piled around him, he started looking cute to me. I think I need my head checked out. @_@;;; Well, it's only natural to start feeling affection for a character you control in battle... 0_o;;;; I'm sorry, the Vampire Princess Miyu hair really got to me.
