How come I didn't find out until yesterday that the Cyber Formula TV series had been released in the U.S.?!

I managed to find the box set marked down to $34...I hope it isn't mysteriously unavailable! Then again, who here other than me watches Cyber Formula?

I see that there's no dubbed version...which brings me to my next topic. I am extremely tired of my brother and other people acting like me only wanting to watch a series in the original language makes me a bad person! Or at least makes me a snob... Excuse me for wanting to hear the characters' original voices! All because my brother walked in on me playing my import copy of Star Ocean 3...or that I got the Ronin Warriors box set and showed enthusiasm toward watching the show in Japanese...how does that make me a snob? Because I have an appreciation for the Japanese language(well, I better!) Because I think that no matter how allegedly good a dub is, changing the character's voice changes their personality, and I'd rather be able to hear all the nuances of the character by listening to the Japanese version? Granted, not all Japanese voice casts are 100% great(Hunter x Hunter comes to mind), but the level of competence has always been much higher than in an English dub. If it's not marginally talented voice actors, it's clumsy directing and script writing that makes the actors sound like English isn't even their first language. Or the dreaded "characters mispronouncing each other's names" which irks me to no end because it's just plain sloppy.

Even if it were the greatest dub in the world, I would watch the original. Just like I wouldn't watch an American movie dubbed in Japanese(unless I was using it for practice) I would just be too curious about what the original version was like. I feel like you can't "know" the characters unless you hear their original voices, not just how they act but how they talk, what kind of speech patterns they use, etc. But thinking about it, somebody who is bad at foreign languages or just isn't interested in them probably would think that that was weird.
