There's a hurricane coming...

...and I'm beginning to think this is it for us.

I've never been so terrified in my life. I can't eat. I can barely sleep. I can't even choke down a few sips of tea. They're saying this is going to be worse than Gloria, the worst hurricane we've seen in decades and decades. I've got bottled water, some food, lanterns, but it's not enough. How the hell am I going to protect this house? I'm trying to move all the stuff that I can get into the garage but what about the roof? What about the windows? I can't board up--it's not like this is my house. There's no place I can go to escape from this and even if I could, my house would probably be looted because that's just the way people are.

My parents are not taking this seriously. My aunt has plans to go to Boston this weekend!

I've never been through a hurricane worse than Gloria. I don't know what to expect. Am I even going to have a place to live?

I live about 25 miles from the coast and 300 feet above sea level. Obviously, I'm not going to be getting storm surge, but what about the wind? Is my house going to be able to take it? And I can't find any information or consolation because everybody on the internet with any information WANTS it to happen!

I have no idea who you are talking about but it's not me. I kindly ask you to please check the correct ID of whoever you are actually referring to. I have never once posted anything in my Flickr account about not getting a PN body and never vent by business in my account either. I buy all my PN bodies from MimiWoo at Ebay. Check the message that was left for you and you will be able to see it's not me. I ask you to please remove that comment because it's very unfair. How would you feel if someone said something about you that was not true? You have mistaken me for someone else.

You have to be able to evacuate if necessary when warnings come, so packing things for that would be a good idea. Checking community sources for what you're allowed to take (and NOT) to a shelter would be useful to know, and is something you can do now, if you haven't already done so. Communities should be providing shelter information as it becomes clearer where it might hit.
Also, many people-shelters don't allow you to bring in pets. Some animal shelters will take them, so it would help to track down who will take your pets, and how they need them documented, an what sort of cages to use, would also be useful. I used to work with a woman who helped during fires out here to evacuate horses and pet pigs and dogs and so on, so it can be a fairly involved process for the folks trying to rescue animals they don't know, and every pet that gets taken out by owners, with their documents, is that much more help.
